= Summary =
One year has passed since the events of DAY 6, and now JACK BAUER (Kiefer Sutherland) has finally found life again after recieving a job at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, by the Engish Chairman who happens to also be one of Jack's former Special Forces instructors, Former U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Professor GREG DENT (J. T. Walsh). But shocking developments arise after Jack is sent a letter from "an old friend, thought dead", who claims Jack and his daughter, KIM BAUER (Elisha Cuthbert) are not safe and in the center of a rogue team of Navy SEALs, led by Commander MICHAEL XAVIER (Jason Isaacs), who are planning to stage a coup' against the United States government. Jack begins to face extremely life challenging events that will drastically "change" his life.

Meanwhile, things heat up in Washington D.C. as federal agents, ALAN SHEPHERD (William Hurt), SAMANTHA MACKENZIE (Laura Linney), BRIAN MAHONEY (Chuck Carrington), JOSEPH FORBES (Evan Parke), and MIKE DOYLE (Ricky Schroder) fight to keep Special Agent NADIA YASSIR (Marisol Nichols) undercover with an active terrorist cell of al-Qaeda radicals. A connection is also discovered that links the terrorist cell to a radicalized American prisoner MARIE WARNER (Laura Harris), whose father BOB WARNER (John Terry) and sister KATE WARNER (Sarah Wynter) are quickly brought in to help uncover the mystery.

President WAYNE PALMER (D.B. Woodside) continues to but heads with Vice President NOAH DANIELS (Powers Boothe) for control of the Presidency and the Palmer family, SANDRA PALMER (Regina King), KEITH PALMER (Vicellous Shannon), and NICOLE PALMER (Megalyn Echikunwoke) remain on the President's side. Meanwhile White House staff, TOM LENNOX (Peter MacNicol), ERIN DRISCOLL (Alberta Watson), CATHERINE DENIM (Kate Nelligan), RICHARD LOOMIS (Nick Searcy), and ETHAN KANIN (Bob Gunton), get caught in the crossfire when a serious threat of Chinese espionage targets Former President CHARLES LOGAN (Gregory Itzin) and the nerve gas conspiracy from three years ago.

CHLOE O'BRIAN (Mary Lynn Rajskub), MORRIS O'BRIAN (Carlo Rota), BILL BUCHANAN (James Morrison), and KAREN HAYES (Jayne Atkinson) all return, as well as JAMES HELLER (William Devane), MARTHA LOGAN (Jean Smart), AARON PIECE (Glenn Morshower), CHRISTOPHER HENDERSON (Peter Weller), and CARL WEBB (Zach Grenier).
