OPEN LETTER TO 24 PRODUCERS: I'M OUTTA HERE!

You know who this is gonna be about...

I never liked Garafolo. In a nutshell, the problem is not her limited ability; her big mouth off camera transcends any possibility to suspend disbelief in any role, much less one on a show like 24. After her shenanigans regarding the "tea parties," now when she opens her mouth all i can think of is her being "teabagged" by Anderson Cooper!

Aside from this off camera nonsense, this season jumped the shark. I could tolerate the outlandish incomprehensibility of the plot(s), but a loose cannon of an actress on top of it, who roams the liberal talk shows actually INSULTING the viewers of the show? Nope, I'm done. I'm not watching 24 any more. I just can't stay focused on the plot; I keep thinking what's going to happen with Garafalo next.

Producers, it's your fault. if you really thought Garafolo would keep her mouth shut, you're dumber than the writers who foisted this season on we viewers who waited patiently for over a year for 24 to return. Shame on you.

By the way, we are an Arbitron family (wearing my recorder now). Do you like your tea with one lump or two?

I also was concerned when i saw Janeane Garofalo on your show. Now my conerns are confirmed.
She has never been a believable character on the show with her history.
"With all due respect..." Get her off, or i'm done with you.

Garofalo's disgusting comments, calling the tea party protesters racist teabaggers is the end of my love of this show. I was a protester and take this personally. i am greatly saddened. another problem i have is the stupid public service announcements on global warming. Fox- FYI - your audience is largely conservatives. you are all pulling a "Dixie Chick" by alienating your fan base. This happened with ER and The Practice when they got political. I used to love watching them, too. One thing to thank Garofalo for is inciting my activism. I am fired up and will spend my excess energy fighting liberal wacky values. This blog site is just me getting started. 4  out of 5 found this valuable. Do you?

Janeane Garafolo has been a distraction since the season started. It's hard to separate her nasty left wing rants from her character. Either get her off the show or lose more viewers! She is an awful actress anyway.
Another thing, give up the green ads, that's something I'd expect from NBC.

For over six seasons I have watched 24 - it has been my favorite television show by far.
Now, I am going to miss it.

After hearing Ms. Garofalo's comments regarding the 'tea parties' that took place on April 15th, I was deeply offended.

First, she was right - it was not about bashing Democrats. I know that for a fact because two of my friends that attended a tea party with me have been life-long Democrats.

She was wrong on the second point - it IS about taxes.

And for her to say, "...they have no idea what the Boston tea party was about, they don't know their history at all" really got my dander up. My post graduate degree is in American History - I do feel I have a fairly decent grasp of American history, including the Boston tea party.

The final straw to me was her statement, "This is about hating a black man in the White House. This is racism straight up. That is nothing but a bunch of teabagging rednecks. And there is no way around that.” I was a young infantry platoon leader in Vietnam. One of the black soldiers in my platoon lost his life saving mine. I am certainly not a racist. My friends and family are not racists, and our friends include many black families. Teabagging rednecks? I think not.

I understand we proudly defend our freedoms in the United States, including the Freedom of Speech. Ms. Garofalo certainly has the right to say whatever she feels like saying and if I had to, I would certainly defend her right to do that.

But... I also have rights. I have the right to choose what I watch on television. And there's no way I can in good conscience watch an episode of 24 knowing I'll be reminded of her calling me and others like me racists and teabagging rednecks.

If you've noticed, I haven't called Ms. Garofalo anything. And I never will.

Jack Bauer will be missed!

A former 24 fan.

Sadly, I too will not be watching your program if you bring back someone as clearly idiotic as she is. It is not just her offensive misrepresentation of the people who attended the Tea Parties (supposedly we all hate Obama because he is black), it is also because she lacks the ability to think clearly. That manifests itself in weak acting. Her character is a cheap Chloe imitation. Keep her part of the cast if you like, but I won't watch, and neither will the other conservatives who work in my office. Oh and tell her for me that it is precisely people like me that insure the show's success or lack thereof.

I have watched lately as hollywoods elite has gone insane, a week or so ago David Letterman said that people who thought like Rush Lindbaugh were basically insane or just brain dead, and now Garofalo calls everyone that disagrees with Obamas policies is a racist. The list of insane left wing actors who are espousing hatred for rightwing political thinkers is too long for listing in this note, however thier hatred forces me to protect myself by refusing to suport their acting careers. With this in mind I serve notice that unless Garofalo is removed from the lineup of the 24 cast I will no longer watch what has been the greatest shows ever made!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2  out of 3 found this valuable. 24 has been one of my favorite shows. Garofalo has made me ill for the last time with her far-left political views! She is not a good actress, and I cannot understand why She has this role and not Chloe. I'm NOT watching anymore, and certainly not buying from your sponsors! Garofalo has insulted Conservatives, including me, too many times now. Where does she get off with her view of what politics should be in America? I'm cancelling as a member too. I am one of the MANY Redneck Tea Baggers, and proud of it! 2  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

I don't care about her politics i just HATE her acting! She is the WORST actress on tv! I can not believe they waist any airtime on her when they could be giving a GREAT actor like Carlos Bernard more airtime! He has been on the show since day 1 and (in my opinion) is equal to Keiffer . Carlos only gets half of the airtime he should be getting but (for some reason) the producers feel the need the SHOVE her down our throats!
By, the way I'm not republican,so it is not just them that HATE HER!!

To all those involved in producing and writing the TV show 24. I congratulate you on another successful season that I have enjoyed watching.

However, to make a very long story short -- should the producers of 24 write Janeane Garofalo into future scripts, this person, his family, and patriotic friends that he is in communication with will boycott the show. If you do not know the reason for this then you are welcome to read on.
Janeane Garofalo has expressed very unpatriotic political views that are so liberal that they are actually racist and bigoted. I am sure that Ms Garofalo is aware of the meaning of "tea bagging". And on public television announced that the patriots at the local tea parties were nothing but “tea bagging “ rednecks in the form of white power unity. This in my mind, and others like me find it impossible to support any kind of acting/work that she is involved in as her political views are so anti-American should cost her financially, as it in flames. True patriots and Americans who have served their country. Her statements. I believe, are more harmful than the statements and actions made by Jane Fonda and Sean Penn
It is my opinion that Janeane Garofalo is unpatriotic and a bigot. It makes me sick when I see her on your show. When in real life. She is against people like the fictional Jack Bauer

24 is THE best series ever. I can't stomach Garofalo, who is as supportive of America as Al Jezeera, but will continue to watch the series; it's too good. I will, however, contact the companies who sponsor this programming and let them know that I (and everyone I talk to about it) will be boycotting their porducts until this witch is GONE. I believe the ONLY way to get her written out of the script is to hit their money source. Let's see if we can get a movement going here. If enough people do it, it'll work. 3  out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?

I appreciate efforts to salvage the entertainment by ridding ourselves of The Albatross, but boycotts never work. However, ratings numbers do. If the ratings tank, the advertisers go away, so it's the same thing. Besides, I think this season is crap, anyway - 24 is usually unbelievable, but the amateurish implausibility of this season on top of Garafolo have me going elsewhere. Too bad, as I just got my wife to start watching. But we both complained every time "Janis" was onscreen. Real life is too stressful without that nonsense coming into our entertainment time.

There's a bigger problem here, though: 24 went left this season, then they have all the "climate change" PSAs, then that problematic episode of the Family Guy that trashes Fox News. I think Fox Entertainment needs to get its mind right, if you get my drift.

So my suggestion is to just write off this season of 24, as I am. Let Fox get the message, and look forward to next year. Hopefully.

In the meantime, Rescue Me is awesome. Breaking Bad is killer. Mad Men is coming up on a new season. Sons of Anarchy is on the horizon. There's good TV out there, just not over-the-air.

I am so disappointed that "24' is becoming politically correct. "Tell me ain't so"!!!! I am such a huge fan of "24" till this year. Can I just have ONE program that doesn't take a LEFT turn. I am VERY disappointed that they have Jeanne Garofalo on this show that I need to move on.... Having her on this show has angered me to no end. WHY is she on here.???..Can anyone from FOX tell me??? And WHY do you have to jump on the "Global Warning" bandwagon. ENTERTAIN me!!! DO NOT PREACH to me!! I have a life and a mind of my own and DO NOT need you to do anything other than ENTERTAIN ME!! This show has been a great source of fine TV watching till this year...GET IT BACK ON or lose alot of viewers!! 2  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

I'm not quite sure why you think boycotts don't work. If a VP of Marketing gets enough feedback that revenues will be impacted and sees some results, he/she WILL take action. They have stockholders to answer to. I'm going to date myself a bit here, but I clearly remember that a boycott worked VERY well when Proctor & Gamble announced a logo change that was satanic in nature. People banded together, boycotted P&G until they backed off on the switch. Granted, this was a time when the mass media had some integrity and supported such things. The real problem today is getting enough people involved. We still have only 1/2 the registered voters actually voting. Pathetic apathy.

The ratings are only affected if your are part of the Nielson ratings. I might be wrong but.... there are other ways, if you are unhappy with this character to get yourself heard. Insulting the show and the writers is not the right way. Facts, points, etc. are. Disappointment and why are. Draft a letter, same as they do with when you want to get your State Representative's attention, send it to FOX 24... With only 4 more episodes, this may be the end of this character anyway. 1  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

@ #1hotchfan:
Thanks for your comments, but note that I wasn't necessarily insulting the show - I was expressing my disappointment and the reasons why I was disappointed. To be clear: Suspension of disbelief is key in dramatic and thrilling entertainment. That is not possible with this season of 24. I am very disappointed for 2 main reasons:

1. The plot lines are a mess. Very hard to keep track of. Resurrecting a dead character has all the feel of the old "Dallas" series. What's next - it's all a dream that Jack has? I want more plausibility.
2. Janine Garafolo brings a lot of off-screen baggage with her. Here huge opinions throughout the last decade expressing her abject hatred of conservatism has me wondering about the sanity of the producers of 24. If they didn't think any of that would spill into 24 and mess with the viewers' ability to enjoy the show, then they truly don't know what they're doing. Garafolo was a poor choice from the start for this reason, but then to have her go off the meter with her left-wing-ism in mid-season (comments regarding "teabagging rednecks"), well, that just tears it with me.
3. This is a bonus reason: The craziness of the plots. For example, does anyone really think a presidential chief of staff would tender his resignation in the middle of a crisis? Remember, 24 takes place of the period of one 24-hour period. Not a chance any resignation could possibly happen. But then, the president replaces the CoS with her daughter - who has no experience doing such a job. Ridiculous.

The only thing that will revive 24 for me is a move back to some minimalist plausibility - one that shows the producers know something about that which they write. The show was always more like sci-fi, but this season is just a weird fantasy with no connection to reality. I'll have a look next season, but right now, all I can do is laugh at the show. Seriously.
