"I'm not quite sure why you think boycotts don't work. ... The real problem today is getting enough people involved. We still have only 1/2 the registered voters actually voting. Pathetic apathy."@ SawgrassPatriot: Hi, I don't think boycotts work for the reason you suggest - Apathy - that getting enough people involved is the problem. But then, if we really analyze what we have here, in the Big Picture it's not that big a deal - we're angry that a moron is on our favorite TV show. It's not like Obama has declared war on Texas or anything. In other words, the Garafolo issue, while angering to many, is just not substantive enough. With that said, however, I'll join you in a boycott. I'll act to get back the REAL 24. The 24 we have now is innane. 2 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

whoa! slow your role!! - i''ve been reading not only theopen letter but some of the responses...ok- since when is an actor or actress bound by the opinions of their viewers. i think ms garafolo is entitled to her opinion and you're entitled to yours. you may not want to look at this, but there actually were a lot of extremely racist and degrading posters and billboards at the teabag gathering. it is what it is...

I think she is a bad actress & i can't stand her character but if they are going to kick people off the show for what they do & say in their personal lives then i guess Kiefer should have been fired a long time ago and I'm THRILLED that they brought Tony back! He is the only reason i watch the show and would not have watched at all this season if he were not there.

Any employee - actors included - are bound by what their employers say they are bound by. I don't know what JG's obligations are, but by any standard it's just not smart to be controversial when one is an *actor*. There is a concept called "suspension of disbelief." It means that a viewer has to turn off that he knows the show is not reality - that it's a film - in order to get into the story. The problem with loud-mouthed actors is that the actor's off-screen personality transcends any role they play. In Garafalo's case, many of us see her as that shrill, screaming voice calling people "teabagging rednecks." It interferes with our acceptance of her as Janis Gold, and not the Idiot Known as Garafalo. In the past, studios used to have whole departments dedicated to following actors around and cleaning up the messes they made off screen, making sure the news didn't get into the papers. Not so anymore. And it affects the work actors can get. For example, you'll never see Sean Penn play a conservative. So Penn is pigeonholed into only playing roles that are politically left. He may enjoy that, but he diminishes his audience. Despite the fact that these are all good actors, I will not see their pictures because A), I always think that the subject matter is going to go politically left, and B), I want even-handed entertainment, not a lecture that will piss me off. If one is trying to appeal to as many viewers as possible, It's just not good business to shoot your mouth off on either religion or politics. 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

I agree that her calling the protesters racists was WRONG,but she is not the only person from this show who makes her political views known publicly. I know that both Denis Haysbert & Carlos Bernard campaigned for Barack Obama and Carlos did a tv commercial (along with alot of other actors from different shows) encouraging people to vote for him.The commercial is posted on one of his fan sites. I have also seen pictures of him & the cast of 24 at Barack's campaign rallies wearing tee shirts with his name on them. Then there are the videos on youtube with the producers of 24 "bragging" about their part in Barack becoming the president. I mean i am grossed out by J.G's comments(& I AM NOT REPUBLICAN) and maybe the CHARACTERS on the show disagree with her,but that does not mean the actors & producers do.

"Then there are the videos on youtube with the producers of 24 "bragging" about their part in Barack becoming the president. "That explains a lot. 24 went politically left this season, and I haven't been happy with it at all. The stupid exchange between Janis Gold and Jack, for example, where Jack takes the time to defined himself to her, explaining that he, too, doesn't like racial profiling. Puhleeze, this is Jack Bauer. Any means necessary, and all that. Let's just hope the nerve toxin does it's job and kills off 24 for good. The ratings are sure lousy. - Two and a Half Men beats it every week. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

I totally agree with bdplaid....I am a loyal fan of 24 for 7 years and now when I see that nasty crackhead looking Garofalo on such a great quality show. Oops I just labeled HER!.I just want to puke. When I hear her bigot rants about Rednecks, Racists and Teabagging on MSNBC..I got angry because she was judging total strangers and giving them labels. She is a very liberal hatemonger and does not represent such a program as 24. I think if we are subjected to her eyeglassed rimmed face, and that unkempt greasy hair then its only fitting that we BOYCOTT the program ! Producers you chose between millions of loyals fans or one controversial actress. Ratings will tell!

I've been searching for a way to submit feedback to 24 regarding this season and came upon this thread. To me, when they added Garafolo to the cast, after all of the subversive vile comments she's made about this country, our military (having served), and even the viewers of this show, well, it felt like the season had been cancelled.I can't stand her and now she's in a prominent role on what used to be my favorite show. I hung on til the end and the show basically got worse. I ended the season more sympathetic to Tony's character and less to Bauer's (wtf was that crap with the Imam at the end?). Bauer's dead to me. As dead as this show is now. What a waste. Do you find this valuable? |

Ugghhh ... This season has been a disaster, overall. I'm liking the development of the René Walker character. I even enjoyed the drama of Olivia. Really glad Tony was back & was being a believable "double agent." I struggled through the bleeding heart PSAs ... through the ridiculous handwringing of "torture" (which allegedly brought-down CTU) ... though the final scenes actually continue the development of Agent Walker ... & the suspected return of "whatever it takes." This season started with a ridiculous event line for the "day's crisis." Air Traffic Control frequencies CAN be spoofed ... but pilots do not blindly follow like those characters did. I was even willing to "suspend belief" on the "CIT?" device which was the 'hydrosilator" of the government technical mechanisms ... I don't care much for JG's personal politics ... but she's an actor .... & like MOST of Hollywood, those folks are screaming liberals. They live in a land of make-believe so you really can't expect much in the way of rational thought when they spend their professional lives pretending to be something they are not. Takes a strong person to see the difference after so many years of that. Besides, if one stopped watching a show due to the actor's liberal politics ... one would not be watching much on the screens (TV/Theater). 24 Producers incorporated a few bright spots ... but Season Seven is a laid-egg. All good things come to an end ... that was Season 6. With Kiefer's escapades, 7 should have been cancelled. Maybe these guys will regroup & spinoff a winner with a different "thread" .... otherwise ... I've just found more time on Monday nights ... or whenever I sat down to watch from Tivo. Shaark: "Besides, if one stopped watching a show due to the actor's liberal politics ... one would not be watching much on the screens."I hear this a lot. And to it, I say, "To each his own." I DON"T watch much TV or many movies for this very reason. Why the hell should I help pay someone's salary that is against most every major belief that I stand for? If you can watch 24 and stomach the image of someone who hate's our country and looks down on you for your beliefs, that's your choice. I just don't care to. I never understood why folks tell me to "look the other way" and "enjoy" the show. How silly would it sound if Bin Laden, Rosie and Iran's PM made a "funny skit" for SNL and people said: "Hey man, just enjoy the humor and don't get caught up in who these people are in real life!" Man, I don't want to even LOOK at these people, let alone have them show up as a character in my favorite series reprising their real life role, a la JG. Get her off the show and return the show to it's original roots. And bring Tony back as the new Bauer. Bauer jumped the shark in bed with that Imam. Let's face it, Garafolo and her ilk love parts of the Constitution that are comfortable to them, then wipe their asses with the rest of it. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"Besides, if one stopped watching a show due to the actor's liberal politics ... one would not be watching much on the screens (TV/Theater)."...But the alternative is to make them richer and famouser (sic), and then they think their position is resonating with "the people." and we are then subjected to more of their nonsense. I vote with my feet and my dollars. To that end, I couldn't even tell you one advertiser that was on 24 this season, so if I buy any of their products, it's by accident. An interesting question i ask myself: what would it take to bring me back as a 24 viewer? An entirely new writing staff would do, as a start. Start by hiring John Milius (Dirty Harry and Red Dawn, among others). Cheers, Do you find this valuable? |

I agree, These actors or actresses should keep their political views private. I noticed the rest of the supporting cast dont go on poltical rants like Garofalo! She has demonized herself from the public. I commend the other cast to maintain their professional positions as actors.Garofalo needs to go! 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I was the biggest 24 fan ever until this year. Bringing in Janeane Garofalo told me they would probably be making a hard left turn and I was right. The finale sucked. Jack Bauer is converting to Islam and the bad guys are white males (as usual). The first six seasons were awesome but I’m finished. I won’t watch next year.Like everything else, they were taken down by the radical left. Do you find this valuable? |

Oh, come on now. Bauer thoroughly chews her butt out when she balks at some of his interrogation tactics. Surely you all enjoyed that, LOL? I wonder if the creators cast her just to do that to her. Aren't they well-known for being a bit conservative? Seems like a strange casting choice. I agree that it ruins the illusion for me when I know too much about an actor's personal life!
